Developers can now create custom offer codes for in-app subscriptions, announces Apple.

As per the new announcement on the Apple Developers website, developers can now create and implement their own custom codes, (for example- NEWPROMO)

Previously to boost in-app subscriptions for developers, Apple introduced new ways like special discount codes. However, earlier discount codes were generated randomly and were of one-time use. Those one-time codes still remain available along with custom codes.

Apple mentioned that custom offer codes will enable developers to easily “acquire, retain, and win back subscribers.”

There are basically two types of offer codes now:

    • One-time use offer codes: These are randomly generated, unique and alphanumeric codes. They can be redeemed on iOS 14, iPadOS 14 or later.

    • Custom codes: These codes can be redeemed by multiple users and are redeemable on iOS 14.1 or iPadOS 14 or later.

Apple has also curated a detailed guide on how to set up offer codes. The process must be done through the App Store Connect portal.

Each app has the limit to offer 150,000 codes per quarter. The users can redeem manually or by using a new direct URL.

You can set who are eligible to redeem your code through App Store Connect and can also include new, active and expired users.
