Microsoft To End Windows 8.1 Support In January 2023

Microsoft will stop offering support for Windows 8.1 in a few months. According to a statement from Microsoft, this Windows version will no longer be eligible for updates starting on January 10, 2023. The software behemoth started asking current Windows 8.1 users to take the same action.

After January 10, users of Microsoft 365 reportedly won’t receive any more features, security, or other top-notch updates for the Office programs. If you wish to continue receiving Microsoft 365 product updates, we advise upgrading from Windows 8 or 8.1 to a supported operating system, the tech giant announced on its help page.

As of January 12, 2016, Microsoft no longer updates Windows 8 with security patches. However, Windows 8.1 should be informed that beyond the end-of-service date for this version, Microsoft 365 programs won’t work correctly.

The company is urging users to upgrade to a newer version of Windows to avoid any reliability or performance issues. If your machine runs an out-of-date version of Windows, you can quickly update to Windows 10.

Microsoft has also unveiled Windows 11. However, most Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 devices are unlikely to meet the hardware requirements for upgrading to Windows 11.

If your computer doesn’t meet the requirements for the most recent version, you must use the Windows 10 operating system. Keep in mind that Microsoft will only provide support for Windows 10 till 2025.

One might also want to consider getting a new PC compatible with Windows 11 if they believe their machine needs to be replaced.
